At first glance you may not think that there’s much of a difference between a Whirlpool bath and an Airpool Bath, because the truth is that, whilst both work in similar ways, there are big differences in terms of both mechanics and experience. Both look similar in that they have jets but as rule look closer - the Whirlpool has holes in the side of the bath and the Airpool system has holes in the bottom of the bath. Both tubs work with jets, but the first one (air jet) works with air – hence, producing bubbles. The second (whirlpool) works with water – hence, producing strong streams of water that come on harder and stronger. The internal mechanics are different, but so is the experience: air jet tends to be soothing, whilst a whirlpool bath can be adjusted to deliver either a strong or soft massage.

Maintenance

Both are relatively easy to clean and maintain – in fact, they often have a self-cleaning system that can be activated with the press of a button. Every manufacturer will provide you with different instructions; however the following rules tend to apply:

With air jets, drain the tub and run the jets until dry
With a whirlpool bath, fill the tub and let the mechanism flow for 10-15 minutes before rinsing.
Points to consider

If you’re in doubt, here are the main points to consider:

Air tubs are less noisy than whirlpool baths
You may have to use your manufacturer’s recommended bubbles and salts – the usual products will bubble too much in no time due to the jets
Check to see which will regulate water temperature best
Still can’t decide? Don’t worry, you can have the best of both worlds: you can have a combination tub. Yes, it’s possible to enjoy the advantages of the air jets and the whirlpool as well; the combination tub allows you to bask in whatever bubble experience you want depending on your own mood on that day. Feel like a deep-tissue massage? Want to have a softer and more soothing experience the next day? The combo has it. Either way, you’re sure to enter a new phase of life if you choose a bath that can give you a luxury bathing experience time and time again.
